Working in the Round / Worked Flat
The hat alternates between being worked in the round and flat (worked back-and-forth) throughout the pattern. Instructions will specify whether it is in the round (rnd) or flat (row). Rnd / row numbers run consecutively through the pattern. RS / WS are indicated at the start of each section.
Markers
The pattern uses 2 stitch markers to guide the insertion of the short rows and the decreases, and are referred to throughout the pattern by letter (mA/mB). Please note that the start/end of rnd changes during the pattern, depending on the wedge being worked (these changes are noted in brackets at the end of each wedge where appropriate).
Two Colour Version
It is possible to work the pattern using two shades, working colour 1 for the ribbing and the purled sections, and colour 2 for the knitted. However, to ensure smooth transition between the colours it is recommended to knit the first row of the purled sections as this ensure that the purls are one solid colour. Also note that the final crown section does not use short rows, if working two colours at this point, the colours will have to be stranded.
